MSU and SOSD Collaborate to Provide Support to Educators and Parents

On October 6th, MSU and Starkville Oktibbeha School District collaborated to provide parent/guardian information sessions and educator professional development opportunities at the Partnership Middle School. Topics were based on interests and opportunities shared by SOSD and MSU aligned resources to connect in the areas of Formative Assessment, Writing Across the Curriculum, College Planning for the Middle School Parent and Financial Literacy Integration into the Classroom.  From the MSU College of Education, Dr. Kathleen Alley led the Writing Across the Curriculum session and Brandi Sumrall the Formative Assessment session and shared strategies and resources with middle school educators.  Dr. Becky Smith, Director, MSU Extension Center for Economic Education and Financial Literacy, led a session for educators on financial literacy integration into instruction, and Tabora Cook, Assistant Director of Recruitment Programs and Diversity Initiatives of the MSU Office of Admissions and Scholarship, led multiple sessions for middle school parents/guardians on tips and strategies for college planning.
